A Special Visit from Suzy

Hi all! This is Suzy and Kate's mommy. Suzy and Kate wanted to let you know about how they got adopted into the family. Since Suzy was very young when we rescued her, I'm going to tell you her story.

She was just barely 3 months old when she entered our lives. Although she doesn't remember much of her life before she met us, we've been able guess how things must have been for her before she met us.

One morning 2 of my husband's coworkers were walking down a trail near their work and they found a puppy in the parking lot. This puppy wouldn't get near them but just stood in the lot and barked. The puppy wouldn't let Chris' coworkers get near her, so they walked back to the store. A little while later a Vet Tech came to the store and the coworkers asked if she saw a puppy in the parking lot down the road. The vet tech said yes, the dog was still there and offered to go get her. So the vet tech was able to catch her and bring her to the store.

The puppy stayed at the store the whole and never left the office. The local APL was called but they could not take her. This puppy needed a home. My husband called me at work and explained the situation. I told him I wanted to see her and after work I went to meet her.

I got off at 2pm that day and drove to the store to see the puppy. The minute I met her and looked into her soulful eyes, I melted. She was so beautiful. We named her Suzy Q. She was large for a 3 month old puppy but very skinny. Her spine, pelvic bone, ribs, and hips were completely visible.

My sister met me at the store and we took her back to my house, gave her a bath and fed her. These first few pictures are of her first day at our (my husband's and my) house.

She was able to see the vet after the weekend. The vet concluded that she was just barely 3 months since she was at the beginning stages of losing her baby teeth. We made her birthday June 8, 2007. She weighed 25 lbs., had many worms, and was malnourished. After hearing the story of how she was found, he also said it sounded like she had been dumped. Whoever had her before didn't take care of her and didn't want to. (We don't tell Suzy this. Since she's been in our house she's never met a person she didn't like and everyone has always been loving and kind to her. She's a lover, not a fighter.)

After a while, Suzy's worm problem was cured and she was gaining 10 lbs every month. She's now a little over a year old, 26 inches at the shoulder, and still gaining weight. She's not obese by any means! It's just that she's still growing and hasn't filled out yet. She loves meeting other dogs and people. We know that she is part Newf. Her fur, temperament, paws, and muzzle matches the Newfoundland's completely. But, Suzy also has a goatee, eyebrows, bangs, long (almost wavy) top coat, and 15 white hairs. Some people have guessed maybe there's some Irish Wolfhound, flat coated retriever, or terrier in her. Maybe we should do a doggie DNA test? It's all the rage now... ;)

Mommy's attempt at loading pics. We hope it works!!!

This is Kate on her first day home from the pound. She's very tired.

A little "Phhhttt!" from Suzy

Typical Suzy and Kate provoking each other in our back yard. They're the best of friends. While Kate was at the vet's this Thurs getting "fixed" Suzy searched the whole house for her and then sulked.
Suzy: It's true. I missed my sister.

Intro

Hi everyone!!! Suzy and Kate here. Our mommy has been reading and telling us about all of these great blogs she found written by dogs and other animals. We got so excited, that we had to join in the fun!
Right now, Suzy is getting groomed and I (Kate) am going to take a nap. (I had surgery on Thursday and mommy says I need to take a nap so I can get better.) While I'm napping, mommy said she'd post some pics of us. We are very excited to meet you all!!!

Love,
Kate, Suzy, and mommy

Mommy: I'm trying to post some pictures of the dogs, but can't seem to get them posted correctly. Help? Please. I'm new to this whole thing. Thanks!
